Is the new Legendary logo for the upcoming Halo 4 a letdown to faithful fans or merely a First Draft?
There seems to be a slew of mixed feelings regarding the change from the iconic emblem that has denoted the most difficult setting Halo players can subject themselves to in the campaign. Diverging from the traditional Sangheili (Elite) Covenant warrior skull suffering from a case of headshot placed in front of a pair of blades adorning a shield is something that looks, according to a recent IGN video, to be more Forerunner in origin.
On the positive side of the discussion from Reddit user GrayBread:
"I think that the new trilogy, campaign wise, has changed enough to warrant a new skull from the new baddies on the block. The design is nice, but seems bland and colourless."
While the less enthused responses come from users like mistahARK:
"I don’t like the design at all, personally. It looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean, rather than the sleek, polished, sexy Halo that we all know and love.
After the initial shock from hearing the news that the crest would be changing, I decided that since there will be a new primary enemy species, it’s totally ok for the crest to change too. But at least keep it true to the style…this looks cartoonish and lame.
And yes, I understand that it’s a first draft. But even still, the design itself just doesn’t seem right.”
Personally, I’m not sure how I feel about the logo. It’s been an iconic part of a series that I grew up loving during my formative years and still enjoy to this day. Partially, I want to stand and say it’s first draft, this one looks terrible, but give 343 Industries a chance. Yet, on the other hands, it’s just a symbol for a difficulty level in a game.
Ultimately, I think at the end of the day we can at least agree on one thing and that’s that IGN continues to serve up great news with sophomoric ability.
